The ultimate Glitterbilly! The one, the only, Webb Pierce !
This man was the Ultimate Glitterbilly! He set the standard for all the others. He wasn't the first Glitterbilly from what I have been able to dig up, that distinction goes to Tex Williams, but, no one was more Glitterbilly than Webb.
He had the suits and the boots and the glasses and the diamonds and the cars to let everyone know that he was the king of the Glitterbillies!
The Country Music Hall of Fame has Webb's 1962 Pontiac Bonneville that was outfitted with pistols for door handles and the gear shift lever and the hood ornament and rifles on the trunk and rear quarter panels and silver dollars mounted everywhere inside in the interior along with saddles and seats covered in hand tooled leather. It is quite a sight to see.
Webb died in 1991, of pancreatic cancer, about the same time the "Persian Gulf War" was ending and as a result, his passing seemed to receive little fanfare, which is a shame, because Webb was one of the truly great singers of Glitterbilly Honky Tonk style music. We miss you Webb! Rest in peace!
